My Past: The Short Version
In 2002, Simon & Schuster published my novel HARLEM REDUX. I had four editors, all of whom quit S&S. So the book was orphaned four times. Not good. But S&S did send me on a book tour and I did my own promotion. The book won an award from Go On Girl!, a book club that spans the nation.
I was living in Munich, having gone there in 1988 to work as a journalist. I returned to the United States in 2003. For three years, I looked for work. I have a degree from Swarthmore College and a master's in journalism from Columbia University. Nevertheless, it was very hard to find anything. Finally, I reconnected with an old friend at the Associated Press and got a job on AP's Foreign Desk. It was horrible. After five miserable months, AP and I parted company. Last month I finally found something.
It's been hard to write, much less get published, while looking for work and worrying about the kids. This blog is about my efforts to get published AGAIN. It feels like a book I’m writing on the fly. I have no idea what’ll come next. So I wish you a happy read. But I warn you: It could be a bumpy ride!
