Publishing DARKNESS & FASHION on Amazon Kindle
Today, I had my first experimentation with Kindle. Better said, my first experiments with publishing on Kindle. I spent hours prepping Darkness and the Devil Behind Me, uploading and reuploading it and making the whole process much more complicated than it really is.
When I finally got it done, it turned out to be sooo simple, and fun!
That seems like a metaphor for life, doesn't it? That we often needlessly complicate the most simple processes?
At any rate, Darkness and the Devil Behind Me is now available for digital download. I can't say as I expect a windfall of readers, but I'm happy to take another step forward in the world of 21st century publishing.
I also put another book on Kindle, but using a pseudonym. It's a republication of a mystery book I wrote a long time ago. For those who might have read it, I'll only say that the original title was Shifting Ground. The new title is Fashion Most Fatal, and it features an appropriately garish cover, designed by yours truly.
Fashion tells the story of Catherine St. Claire, her husband, Adam Radcliffe, and her assistant Clover Daniels. When St. Claire is found dead, both Radcliffe and Daniels come under suspicion. It's up to Daniels to save them both. Suspects include a motley crew ranging from St. Claire's stepson, who hated her, to her business manager, who she'd discovered stealing from her.
Fashion was not one of the first novels I attempted; it was, however, the first that I completed. Yes, it has its faults, but it's still quite good, even if I say so myself. It's set in the world of high fashion, during the 1980s, I think, and does a good job of keeping the reader guessing. I dare say none of the five people who bought the book when I first published it with iUniverse figured out who'd done it.
Why don't I have it on my main website pages? Logistics partly. It takes my web master a long time to respond to queries. I love him, but I have to say that. Also, it's really a matter of money. I don't have the finances to add an extra page right now. Tightening the digital belt and all that.
Next anticipated question: Why is it being written under a pseudonym? I don't know. I just liked the name Hudson Channing. It reminded me of Jackie Collins and Jacqueline Susann and seemed much quite fitting somehow.
