Hmmm ... No NaNo Today
Okay, I admit it. I did not NaNo today. Not only did I not even make an effort to NaNo, I barely made an effort with my regular novel. Yes, I still feel quite ill and this darn cold is definitely draining my energy, but that's not the blame. The fact is, I'm a procrastinator. Gosh, do I have incredible wily skills at avoiding the written page. To give myself some slack, though, I did do something useful (I hope): I signed up with an email marketing campaign company.
I can practically hear the groans out there. But before you start whining about it, let me say this: I will probably never use this campaign whatchama-jiggy. And if I do, it will be rarely. I would love to send out a "newsletter" once a month, but I just don't have that much news to share. I thought about committing myself to writing a short story a month, but ... un-uh, I know that's not going to happen.
So why do I need to have signed up with an email campaign company if I don't intend to use their services. Well, you know, this question occupied me too for a long time. It's why it took me so long to do it. In the end, I found one that would allow me to pay-as-I-go. In other words, I don't have to pay a monthly minimum for services I won't use. Also, the company had really pretty templates that matched the look and feel of my new website.
So I think it was a good decision. Should I ever get to the point where I do send out regular announcements, well then the mechanism is already in place. Now, all I have to do is get web traffic -- an issue that still mystifies me.
