Another Dumb Move ... On My Part

All right, so I screwed up. Badly. Thanks to my writing exercises, I.e. Warming up exercises, I got back up to speed with working on Untitled #101 and most especially, The Palmer Affair. But guess what I didn’t do: back it up on the LaCie Robert bought me. Now, I’d picked up the LaCie because I was concerned about losing stuff, just as I was concerned about having all my Poser downloads readily accessible. But after a while, you know what? I became lazy. No more backups. And then you know what? Murphy’s Law kicked in, the one that says stuff will go wrong. The hard drive on the laptop froze up and lost its “ability to communicate.” In other words, while it was still sitting right there in the laptop, it went into deep silence mode, so deep that none of the programs are supposed to scan your hard drive — Disk Utility, etc. — could even find the thing. It simply disappeared, and took all my rewrites with it.

As luck would have it, I’d suddenly gotten sick and tired of staring at a small screen, so I’d ordered the computer I’m presently writing on: a MacBook Pro, the laptop I’d been lusting for for what? Oh, two years, maybe. The computer I should’ve bought last year. I bought it this year, however, because I also wanted to buy my daughter an iPod Touch. So Apple launched its annual deal wherein if you buy a computer and an iPod at the same time, then you get a rebate. Saved me a couple hundred bucks.

Now, I love my new laptop. No doubt about it, but I’m heartbroken over the rewrites that I lost in the other laptop. The lovely person at Apple’s “Genius Bar” told me that my recalcitrant hard drive would have to be totally replaced. If I wanted my data recovered, then I’d have to spend ….. Well, I won’t mention the sum she quoted. It made me ill.

In the end, I could only blame myself — and I do, for such idiocy. Take heed, people. If you buy a backup device, then for goodness sakes' use it.

Hi Persia! I recently went Mac myself. I bought a regular MacBook, and I love it! I plan to get an iMac soon as well. The learning curve isn't nearly as bad as I've always thought it would be.

Sorry you lost your work. But, your real source is always with you. ;-)

Best,
M

Unwelcome Message

Oh, my! What are you doing here? Obviously, you took a wrong turn on the great information highway. No one reads this blog, absolutely no one, for good reason. It's simply the musings of a writer. Goodness knows, there are plenty of those around, most of them more interesting than this one. So move on. Go on. Shoo!

Still here? Well, if you must stick around, then do be quiet. Make no comments. Don't send out little alerts and invite your friends. This is my place and you're in it. You're welcome to take a seat in the peanut gallery, but don't utter a sound. Not a peep.

Don't let me know you're there. Or else.

About the Author

None of your business. You're not supposed to be reading this, remember? Consider what curiosity did to the cat. You're being curious and that's not good.

Go Away!

Try reading about Sara. She just signed with a big literary agent. Unlike me, she might be kind enough to tell you how she did it.

Don't you have something better to do?

Why don't you go here and learn how to make money online, or here and learn something about men? House is right. You're a nitwit.
